Palm Seed Germination

Tracking the progress and methods of seed germination.

I’ve had great success germinating Sabal seeds lately. Latest batch includes Sabal bermundana, Sabal yapa, Sabal maritima, Sabal causiarum. I had a small amount of each seed so I used small square nursery pots, spread the seeds evenly near the top and added a light layer of potting mix on top. I put all the pots into a clear Rubermaid container with lid, and placed in half day full sun. I made sure mix was moist at all times during daytime. Seeds popped in four weeks.

Alpinia nigra – First time germinating ginger. This type is medium size but I was amazed that even at this small size, when I gently pulled each seedling apart I could already smell ginger!
